Understanding Zero Hunger

Sustainable Development Goal 2 focuses on ending hunger, improving nutrition, achieving food security and promoting sustainable agriculture. Reliable access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food is essential for people to lead healthy and productive lives.

Food insecurity can affect families' health, children's development and communities' economic opportunities. Addressing it requires solutions that improve food availability, affordability and distribution while strengthening the livelihoods of people who produce food.

Sustainable agriculture, better food management and support for rural communities can help build food systems that remain productive in the face of climate change and other challenges.

Key Areas of Focus

Lasting progress towards zero hunger depends on coordinated action that connects agriculture, nutrition, livelihoods and resilient food systems.

01 / FOOD PRODUCTION

Sustainable Farming

Promote responsible agricultural practices that improve yields, protect soil and water resources, and maintain productive land for future generations.

02 / HEALTHY DIETS

Nutrition and Well-being

Support awareness and initiatives that improve access to diverse, nutritious foods and encourage healthier diets for individuals and families.

03 / RURAL LIVELIHOODS

Empowering Farmers

Recognize the contribution of smallholder farmers by promoting skills, knowledge and opportunities that strengthen agricultural livelihoods.

04 / CLIMATE ACTION

Resilient Food Production

Encourage approaches that help farmers respond to droughts, unpredictable rainfall and other climate-related risks affecting food production.

05 / FOOD DISTRIBUTION

Reducing Food Loss

Highlight the importance of appropriate storage, transportation and distribution in reducing food waste and improving access to available food.

06 / COLLABORATION

Partnerships for Food Security

Encourage cooperation among communities, researchers, institutions and development partners to identify and support effective food security solutions.

CSRI and the Goal of Zero Hunger

The Center for Sustainability and Research Initiative (CSRI) promotes sustainable development through research, community engagement and strategic partnerships. These approaches can help inform responses to development challenges, including those connected to food security and sustainable livelihoods.

Advancing zero hunger requires locally relevant evidence, collaboration and solutions that recognize the needs of farmers, households and communities. Research and community participation can contribute to identifying challenges and informing more sustainable approaches.

Our commitment: This section can be expanded with verified CSRI initiatives, research findings, community activities and partnerships specifically related to food security, nutrition or sustainable agriculture.
